RECS Working Groups: Updates

RED 4 preparations

Following successful meetings with RECS Members, the Secretariat is in drafting a position paper of the associations key asks for the next EU Renewable Energy Directive. This draft will be reviewed by the working group in September before being finalised in Q4. This paper will set out the organisation’s policy demands for European markets for the next 10 years.

Biomethane standard contract development

Following successful meetings with RECS Members, the law firm DLA Piper is preparing a draft Biomethane GO standard contract. This draft will be reviewed by the working group in September before being finalised in Q4. This contract will allow RECS members to buy and sell Biomethane GOs using a trusted and robust contract for single trades with potential for multiple deliveries.

GHG Protocol review

The RECS Secretariat remains in close contact with the WRI Secretariat members leading the review and possible update of the GHGP Scope 2 guidance document. RECS Understands that the WRI Secretariat will shortly publish its summary and analysis of responses it received to its initial survey. It will initially be shared for comment with organisations and individuals who responded to the survey, before being finalised for general release.

NEW Working Group – Technical modernisation of EAC systems (Members only)

The RECS Secretariat reiterates its call for members to join the association’s new working group to discuss the technical modernisation of EAC systems. The working group will provide input for an advocacy document that will focus on systemic issues and overall technology evolution. It will consider important policy developments such as full consumption disclosure and more granular issuance of EACs – both of which will likely generate an increased volume of certificates and could demand greater automation.

If you work for an organisation that is a member of RECS and would like to participate in any of these working groups please contact RECS Secretary-General Adam White at a.white@recs.org.
