Portugal new member of the AIB

The Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB), the umbrella organization of EECS-GO issuers and holders of the EECS Standard, are welcoming their newest member: REN, representing the Domain of Portugal.

REN is the Transmission System Operator and now, following the establishment of EEGO (Entidade Emissora de Garantias de Origem), a separate ringfenced work unit within REN, the Issuing Body for electricity GOs in Portugal. REN’s scheme membership was recently approved at the AIB General Meeting held on the 19th June 2020.

EEGO have developed their own in-house registry (EEGO System) and will begin issuing EECS GOs from the 1st July 2020.  The EEGO System will then connect to the AIB Hub from the 1st of August 2020. Imports to and exports from Portugal will be possible from that date onwards.

Currently, EEGO is registering an expected 250 account holders and over 300 production devices, expecting to be issuing around 13 TWh of renewable GOs.
