The D-REC Organization is an independent non-profit that stewards D-RECs, a market
mechanism that enables renewable distributed energy resources (DER), including mini-grids,
solar home systems, and other decentralized renewable assets, to participate in recognized
Energy Attribute Certificate (EAC) markets across Emerging Markets and Developing
Economies (EMDEs).
As renewable electricity systems become more diverse in scale, ownership, and geography,
the ways they participate in EAC markets continue to evolve. Enabling thousands of small,
geographically dispersed DER to participate presents different challenges from enabling a
comparatively small number of utility-scale facilities. The D-REC Organization addresses this
challenge through the D-REC Label, which stewards the rules, methodologies, and
governance that enable credible participation within existing EAC registries and standards.
We welcome engagement from organizations across the EAC ecosystem, including registries,
issuers, standard-setting organizations, developers, market intermediaries, and corporate
buyers, on methodology, qualification, interoperability, and the continued evolution of DER
participation in EAC markets.
