Not all electricity consumption in Europe is certified and tracked with Guarantees of Origin, as only a handful of countries have full disclosure schemes. The residual mix is a key tool for avoiding double counting – where in the attributes of the same unit of energy are claimed both though the cancelation of a GO and by claiming consumption of the production mix.
