The German economy and energy ministry is currently considering a change in legislation for the qualification for Guarantees of Origin (GOs) for renewable sites receiving premiums or feed-in tariffs (FiT) under the German renewable energy law (EEG).
Under the current legislation, these energy sites cannot apply for a GO because power consumers already pay for the green quality (the “attributes”) through the EEG levy. However, now that the EEG levy is partially financed through general taxation, this argument has become nullified.
The ministry will be analysing the matter and come to conclusions in the next parliamentary period.
