The Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB) has released its data for Q3. The data shows production, transfer, export, import and expiry figures of Guarantees of Origin. The data is increasingly detailed, allowing for better evaluation of the renewable energy market at product level.
The figures show a significant growth in usage over of the Guarantee of Origin in Europe. It is likely that cancellations in 2017 will exceed 500 TWh in 2017, a nearly 120 TWh increase over 2016 cancellations. Beyond this ex-domain cancellations are significantly reduced. Ex-domain cancellations are a tool to cancel (or redeem) GOs outside of European connected regions. RECS International has seen this trend coming as it is a direct result of other internationally standardized systems (such as the I-REC Standard) providing reliable attribute procurement outside of Europe. There is also an increased recognition among market players that attributes should be consumed close to the location of production.
