The Dutch subsidy system (SDE+) now requires certification via Guarantees of Origin (GO) for all producers of renewable heat attempting to claim national subsidy credit.
CertiQ, the GO issuing body of the Netherlands, now has the capability to certify sustainable heat production. They can also certify ‘waste’-heat from power generation sites or through heat-pumps. Currently the demand for these heat-GOs is low but it seems likely that as consumers and municipalities compete for the heat-certificates a market could exist in which the producer of sustainable heat could sell their heat for an additional value – comparable to the system for renewable electricity that currently exists via GOs.
